Boldmere St Michaels F.C. (History)

The `Mikes`

The 1970`s

Tom Ross is well known in Birmingham as the Head of Sport of `Gold` Radio  and `BRMB` radio. His Friday night phone in, the Celebrity Forums and the `Goal Zone` match day commentary are legendary, resulting in the radio station(s) winning many awards and boasting the biggest listening audiences in the County of West Midlands.

What is not so well known is that he played for Boldmere St. Michaels in the 1970`s. Such is the affection that he has for his old club that he has mentioned Boldmere St. Michaels on the air. Commenting about the `Mikes` he said, “I loved it here!”

MORE OF TOM`S INTERVIEW WILL BE IN THE BOOK NOW AVAILABLE.

Boldmere play Aston Villa in the F.A. Youth Cup in 1972.

On page 71 of the `A History of Boldmere St Michaels` there is a reference to the F.A. Youth Cup (First Round) which was played at Villa Park on Wednesday 27th November 1972. It is now confirmed that although Aston Villa won 8-0 in another game, in this match Aston Villa won 3-1. The young `Villa` team were 2-0 up at half time. Their goals came from Nigel Dyer, Bobby Campbell and Bobby McDonald. I am still looking for the record of the Boldmere scorer. If any one knew who the Boldmere goal scorer was then let me know on mike.talbot1@tiscali.co.uk
